A Sunday Kind of Soft: A Loungewear Moment at Maison Rose

There are certain places that feel like stories. Maison Rose is one of them.

For the latest blush loungewear photoshoot, we escaped to this hidden gem tucked in the heart of Hudson, Quebec. Think antique chandeliers, sun-drenched rooms, and the gentle hush of slow mornings. Our photographer, Leilla Ouirzane, brought her signature romantic eye to the shoot, capturing the collection in a way that feels like a daydream.

To set the mood and share the magic, we sat down with two of the incredible women behind this experience: Shona, the one managing Maison Hudson, and photographer Leilla.

The Lens: Photographer Leilla Ouirzane

We knew from the start that Leilla was the perfect photographer for this shoot. With her dreamy aesthetic and poetic approach to light and detail, she brought the softness of our spring loungewear collection to life.

What first drew you to photography? Tell us a bit about your journey into becoming a photographer.

Having an interest at a very young age in the arts, painting as well as dance, photography came a little later in my life as a young teenager. I was friend with a student who was older than me and who always had her camera around her neck and had opportunity to take pictures of school events. It will seem childish but I found this person really cool that she could have creative projects at school and at the same time her interest in photography allowed her to bring together people who wanted to have their pictures taken in order to commemorate high school memories. So, photography came into my life because I had this desire to also meet people, collaborate and create a positive, artistic experience focused on meeting and sharing. My journey officially began in 2019, more precisely during the summer, a period when I had never felt so alone mentally and socially. I really had this desire to prioritize myself and especially to see myself tap into a passion. I knew absolutely no one in the field, so I had to find a way to attract people to collaborate with me and to practice. This is how I signed up on the Bumble app in order to convince people to want to do a photoshoot with me. Surprise, it was a success all summer long and it brought me a lot of joy because I had the chance of meet new people, be social and enterprising but at the same time practice a new passion. Since then, I’ve kept going, saved up for better equipment, built my portfolio and a professional website, and managed to develop my own photographic touch.

How did you develop your signature dreamy style?
My artistic style is largely inspired by my self-portraits. I have been practicing self-portraiture since I was 14 and I’m almost 30. Self portrait has introduced me to developing my universe, to how to represent the image as well as to create a universe. As a result, I have moved towards warm tones, a poetry of the image, a soft presence in front of the camera, the exploration of the body and lightness.

Your work has such an ethereal, romantic quality—what inspires this aesthetic, and how do you bring it to life in your shoots?

I strongly believe that my photographic style is closely linked to my personality. I am a gentle, fragile, dreamy and romantic person in my thoughts and way of being. This, it is almost natural for me to convey these feelings in my art because art, life and our emotions are often interwined. Also, for me it is a way to show the beauty of the people as well as the beauty of the place.

How did your photography style suit this Blush photoshoot for spring loungewear?

Blush has a natural, intimate, soft, flirty and almost vintage look. As such, my artistic touch complemented and perfectly represented Blush’s image. We also perfectly captured the artistic vision Blush wanted for the shoot. A cinematic, vintage, natural and delicate approach. The collaboration was natural and fluid.

How did the setting of the hotel enhance the softness and femininity of the collection?

The hotel’s ambiance perfectly complemented the concept of the photoshoot. The antique style added greatly to the atmosphere and enhanced each of the looks, which shared the same color tones and a vintage feel. In addition, the light created by the space would bring that touch of softness.

If you could describe the mood and feeling of this shoot in three words, what would they be and why?
In 3 words, cinematic, magical and authentic. The images seem staged due to the looks, the settings almost mysterious and illuminating atmosphere. All together, it really created something dreamy. On the other hand, I speak of authenticity because it was a new approach for Blush, having worked with me for this session and having given me the creative freedom to portray their values, their feelings for Blush.
